There is no denying the hottest bake right now - and has been for quite some time - is the Macaron. The pretty meringue and almond-based confections are a must-have sweets with their light soft, texture and profusion of beautiful colours, from the palest to the most striking. Much is written about how hard it is to make the macaron. They are not easy, but with a little practice, you will soon be able to make the perfect macaron every time.

Yet, despite their popularity, there is still confusion over the difference between a macaron and macaroon.
